Circuit breakers, as core equipment in power systems responsible for circuit switching and fault protection, are directly related to power supply reliability and personal safety through proper selection, installation, and maintenance. In practical applications, neglecting key precautions may lead to protection function failure, malfunctions, or even equipment damage. Therefore, it is necessary to systematically review the key requirements for circuit breaker use, covering selection, configuration, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and emergency response.

Selection and configuration should strictly match system parameters. Based on the circuit's rated voltage, rated current, and expected short-circuit current level, a circuit breaker model with appropriate breaking capacity and short-time withstand capability should be selected to avoid insufficient capacity to effectively interrupt fault current. In multi-level protection coordination, attention should be paid to the coordination of tripping characteristic curves between upstream and downstream circuit breakers to ensure selective operation during faults and prevent unnecessary expansion of power outages due to cascading tripping. For special environments, such as high temperature, high humidity, corrosive gases, or explosive locations, products with appropriate protection levels and adaptability should be selected.

The installation process must comply with specifications and process requirements. The circuit breaker installation location should be well-ventilated, easy to operate and maintain, and have sufficient space for heat dissipation and maintenance. Terminals should be securely tightened to prevent localized overheating due to excessive contact resistance. Cable or busbar entry directions should conform to the manufacturer's specifications to reduce mechanical stress damage to internal components. Before installation, check the circuit breaker for any transportation damage and perform insulation and circuit integrity tests before energizing to ensure there are no short circuits or grounding hazards.

A periodic inspection system should be established for operation and maintenance. Regularly check the circuit breaker's appearance, indicator status, and the flexibility of the operating mechanism, paying attention to any unusual odors, noises, or overheating. For accessible contacts and connections, monitor contact resistance changes and clean and tighten as necessary. Intelligent circuit breakers can obtain operating parameters and event records through monitoring systems to analyze trends such as frequent overloads and abnormal protection actions, allowing for proactive preventative or replacement measures. Components in the arc-extinguishing chamber, energy storage mechanism, and secondary circuits also need to be inspected or replaced according to the prescribed schedule to maintain stable performance.

Human factors and environmental risks must be considered during operation and use. Manual opening and closing of circuit breakers should only be performed after confirming that the load status and operational intent are correct, to avoid arcing injuries caused by misoperation under load. During thunderstorms or periods of frequent power grid disturbances, inspections and remote monitoring should be strengthened, and any abnormal actions should be investigated promptly. Discarded or unrepaired circuit breakers should be disposed of according to electrical safety regulations to prevent residual charge or hazardous substances from harming personnel and the environment.

Overall, precautions for circuit breaker use cover aspects such as technical matching, standardized installation, meticulous maintenance, and prudent operation. Only by strictly implementing these requirements throughout the entire lifecycle can reliable operation be ensured at critical moments, building a solid safety barrier for the power system and electrical equipment.
